Inbound and outbound shipments: compare what comes in with what goes out

A short guide to the Inbound and outbound dashboard: shipments, transport cost, weight and CO₂e split by direction.

What this dashboard is for

This dashboard splits your transport into inbound (goods coming to you, for example from suppliers) and outbound (goods going to your customers). Use it to:

  • see how volume, cost and emissions are divided between the two flows;

  • follow monthly trends in each direction;

  • find out which flow drives your cost and CO₂e.

Filters

  • Period (top right): default is the last 12 months.

  • Site.

  • Direction: inbound, outbound or both.

  • Currency: filter shipments by the currency they were priced in.

  • Data as of: when the data was last updated.

The cards at the top

Card

What it shows

Shipments

Shipments in the period.

Transport cost

Cost of priced shipments.

Weight (kg)

Total weight shipped.

CO₂e emissions (t)

Emissions of shipments with an emission calculation.

The line under each value compares with the average of the previous 24 months. For cost and CO₂e, ▲ is red (more is worse); for shipments and weight, ▲ is green.

The charts

  • Shipments by month and direction: inbound and outbound shipments per month, stacked. Look at whether one flow grows faster than the other, and at seasonal peaks.

  • Transport cost by month: total cost per month. The subtitle shows how many shipments are priced. A month that stands out (like a peak in March) is worth checking: was it more shipments, heavier goods or more express?

  • By direction (four donuts): the share of inbound vs outbound for shipments, cost, weight and CO₂e.

How to read the four donuts: compare them from left to right. For example:

Inbound is 27% of shipments… but 51% of cost, 56% of weight and 75% of CO₂e.

That means inbound shipments are fewer but much heavier and travel further, often by air or sea from abroad. That makes inbound the place to look first if you want to lower cost or emissions, for example by consolidating supplier shipments or choosing slower, lower-emission modes.

Tip: choose Inbound or Outbound in the Direction filter to see the monthly trend for one flow at a time.

Common questions

Why don’t cost and CO₂e cover all shipments?

Only priced shipments, and shipments with an emission calculation, are included. The subtitles show the coverage.

Why is the first month so low?

The period starts in the middle of the month.
